As a volunteer animal photographer, what kind of camera do you use most and why?

There are essentially three categories of digital cameras: digital SLR, high performance digital point-and-shoot, and compact digital point-and-shoot. They all have trade-offs and yes we all know there is no right camera for everybody. This is just a pole to get some ideas, hints and feedback from fellow photographers on what they use & why.

Taking photos of shelter animals can be a challenge. Our job as volunteers is to take impressive photos of animals for adoption. But this can be next to impossible do to lighting background & animal wildest, hopefully we will help each other learn & teach new ideas & techniques we personaly have learn, that will help you capture your fine feathered or furry friends in all their glory.
